Moore has Better plans for ‘cult’ horse

Moore holds Group 1 ambitions for his in-form son of Stratum who will line-up in the Smithfield RSL Club Sprint (1200m) at Rosehill this Saturday.Had it not been for border laws preventing interstate stables from travelling to Western Australia, the Rosehill conditioner would have already had the chance to test Much Much Better at the top level.Moore had been keen to target last Saturday’s Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes at Ascot with his striking grey, which was also among the nominations for the Hong Kong International Sprint at Sha Tin later this month.“I thought of going to the Winterbottom and if he happened to win, then potentially we could have tried to get him an invite to Hong Kong,” Moore said.“They did call me (in Perth) and say they hope I consider coming over next year but we are probably going to look towards Brisbane with him before then.”Much Much Better started his career with John O’Shea with some success but has been the rising star of Moore’s stable since making the swi

Vile threat that made leader choke up

Michael Gunner was first asked if he was aware of Facebook posts written by a veteran who criticised protesters for playing The Last Post at an anti-vaccination rally and became the subject of threats and abuse. But the subsequent question visibly upset Mr Gunner and he was almost brought to tears. He then told reporters he and his family had been subject to threats, including one where “my kid would be put in a grave”. The Chief Minister took a few seconds to compose himself before continuing to respond. “But we have a job and we’ll do our job and I thank police and others for the work they are doing,” he said. Mr Gunner and his wife Kristy O’Brien are parents to Hudson, who was born in April 2020.Mr Gunner, who was not aware of the veteran’s Facebook post, said he strongly supported the person’s views and then revealed he too had threats made against him. “You have the freedom to protest,” he said.“I think to compare a lifesaving vaccine, and your selfish decision to not take it, wit

Teen held at gunpoint over false report

Kate Hartcher, 18, thought she was going to die when she was swooped on by police in the driveway of her NSW Central Coast home on October 15.“I turned around, he had his gun pointed at me,” the disability support worker told A Current Affair.“He yelled out: ‘Get on the f**king ground. You have the right to remain silent’.“I kept asking ‘why is the gun pointed at me?’ because that was mainly what I was scared about. I honestly thought I was going to get shot.”CCTV footage shows Ms Hartcher laying on the ground by her car with the policeman pointing his gun at her, for what ACA reported was 90 long seconds. She was then put in handcuffs and told an older woman had reported the car stolen, but Ms Hartcher says she had purchased the BMW, which was advertised on Carsales, from a “younger Chinese male” and had the paperwork to prove it.“I’ve never seen an older lady at all,” she said.“When I did purchase the vehicle, (the man) said it was on behalf of his friend because they were stuck in an

State premiers told to ‘hold the line’ and reopen borders

Tourism and Transport Forum CEO Margy Osmond has warned the failure to uphold National Cabinet’s agreement to reopen state borders will have dire consequences for the tourism sector ahead of the summer holidays. “This will be the fifth set of school holidays in a row that have been impacted by COVID,” she told Sky News Australia. “For us, it’s very important that the state governments hold the line that they all agreed to last night at National Cabinet and that we get those borders open as proposed as part of the national plan, or we really will see the sorts of failures in the industry that we’ve been experiencing for some time now and that we’re projecting for the end of this year.” Via news.com.au — Australia’s leading news site https://www.news.com.au

Fireworks Thrown into Portable Toilet in Southlake, Texas

Police in Southlake, Texas, released footage showing a suspect throwing fireworks into a portable toilet on a construction site on November 18. Southlake Police and Fire Departments said a white or silver Ford F-150 pulled into a construction area at 1371 Brumlow Avenue at around 7:45pm and a white male sprinted to a portable toilet on site. “He lit some fireworks, tossed them in, and raced back to the truck huffing and puffing. He was probably pooped from that sprint,” they said. Police said the fire department responded quickly and that they were seeking information about the suspects or the vehicle. “Stinks for these criminals, because this isn’t a mere criminal mischief. No friends, this is Arson, and it’s a second degree felony. The fire damaged the building, a trailer, and of course the $5,000 Porta Potty. If there’s any silver lining, it’s that no one was hurt or killed,” they added. Credit: Southlake Police and Fire Departments via Storyful Via news.com.au — Australia’s leading

Storm ‘deeply offended’ by Smith remarks

Smith appeared on the YKTR Sports podcast where he not only claimed he saw himself winning a premiership in a Sydney Roosters jersey, but he also lifted the lid on the club’s off-field antics and revealed drinking is “a massive part of the culture” at the Victorian club.Given Smith was caught up in the white powder scandal not long after the Storm were dumped out of the NRL finals by Penrith, the comments have certainly gone down like a lead balloon at Storm HQ.Rodski confirmed the rake would move on to pastures new after the 2022 season has concluded, but didn’t hold back in how those at the club felt about Smith’s remarks on the podcast.“Recent comments made by Brandon in a podcast, and the way he expressed them, do not align with Storm’s values and the way we operate as a club,” Roski said in a club statement.“The statements have deeply offended current and former players, coaches, staff and board members and the club strongly rejects the comments made about the Storm culture.“We ac

Mr Mulvaney said the treatment of China and the Soviet Union was “extraordinarily different,” and diplomatic relations will not change until the treatment does first. “Until we change the way that we behave towards the Chinese, I don’t think we should expect to see the Chinese change the way they behave towards us,” he said. New Lava Vents on La Palma Volcano Threaten Previously Unaffected Land

Hunt: Australia as well prepared as any nation to deal with Omicron

Australia’s high vaccination coverage makes it as well prepared as any nation to deal with the Omicron variant, says Health Minister Greg Hunt. “Australia is as well prepared as any nation in the world to deal with emerging variants,” he told reporters. “We are now at 39.2 million vaccinations, 92.4 per cent first doses, 87 per cent second doses and 430,000 boosters. “Australians are doing their part to provide the strongest possible protection and that's been played out in one of the highest vaccination rates in the world, one of the most recently and freshly vaccinated countries in the world and one of the lowest rates of loss of life in the world. “All our expectations are that those trends will continue. “Nevertheless, our goal has been to be prepared for emerging variants and there are a series that have come before and, no doubt, there will be others that come after Omicron.” Via news.com.au — Australia’s leading news site https://www.news.com.au

Deputy CMO: Omicron variant highly transmissible but a milder strain of COVID-19

Early indications appear to demonstrate the Omicron variant is a highly transmissible but a milder strain of COVID-19, says Deputy Chief Medical Officer Dr Sonya Bennett. Nevertheless, with a lack of data over the severity of the new variant, Dr Bennett has backed the federal government’s cautious approach by delaying the border reopening to international students and visa holders. “Based on what we know, that certainly seems to be the case, including our own five cases, they’ve all had very mild symptoms if any symptoms at all,” she told Sky News Australia. “But again, we just don’t know enough, there aren’t that many cases yet reported. “Ironically, we need to see more cases to understand more about the virus but, all indications show that, particularly in vaccinated people, it does appear to be mild and we’re hoping that’s what will happen over the next couple of weeks. “But hope’s not a strategy, so that’s the reason really for the pause and the cautiousness until we do understand

Incredible resource on the Moon

NASA reportedly signed a deal with the Australian Space Agency to send an Australian-made rover to the moon back in October to collect lunar rocks, The Sun reports. There is a lot of oxygen on the Moon despite its very thin atmosphere but it’s not in a gaseous form. The moon’s oxygen is trapped in the layer of rock and fine dust that covers the surface called the regolith. If oxygen from the regolith could be extracted, there are chances it could potentially support human life.Oxygen can be found in a bunch of minerals in the ground. Silica, aluminium, and iron and magnesium oxides are frequently found on the Moon. Most of these minerals come from the impacts of meteorites crashing into the moon’s surface and they contain oxygen but it’s not in a way that is accessible to our lungs. The regolith is made up of around 45 per cent oxygen that is bound into the Moon’s minerals. The bonds can be broken apart with energy that needs to be supported with solar energy or other sources that could
