Nations need to change ‘the way we behave’ towards China

Former White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney says the way China interacts with the US or Australia will not change unless we change “the way we behave”. “First and foremost, that China is not a western nation, and you cannot treat China the same way you would treat say Germany or Argentina,” he told Sky News Australia. Mr Mulvaney said the treatment of China and the Soviet Union was “extraordinarily different,” and diplomatic relations will not change until the treatment does first. “Until we change the way that we behave towards the Chinese, I don’t think we should expect to see the Chinese change the way they behave towards us,” he said.
