‘The time has come’ to protect people online: Joyce

Deputy Prime Minister Barnaby Joyce says "the time has come" to protect vulnerable people online, including those in regional communities. He said the average time spent online in regional communities, especially by young kids who "haven't got other activities", can be more than the standard 14 .4 hours a week. "The time has come for us to make sure we do more to protect people and to assist, especially parents and the trials and tribulations that come in many instances with daughters who are online - being bullied, being trolled, being persecuted by anonymous people," Mr Joyce said. "It is not a matter of shutting down free speech; it is a matter of acting appropriately." Via news.com.au — Australia’s leading news site https://www.news.com.au
