More chaos on Sydney trains

An urgent wiring issue in Panania, in Sydney’s west, has led to delays and changed stops at train lines such as the Macarthur line.“Allow extra travel time due to urgent overhead wiring repairs at Panania,” Twitter pages for the train lines said.“Trains may have changed stops and leave from different platforms. “Please listen for announcements and check information screens before getting on trains.”One frustrated commuter said they have been left stuck on the train for more than half an hour.“The most unreliable train system, stuck on a train for more than half an hour now with no movement,’ the social media user said.“Going to be late for my appointment despite me taking 2 earlier trains to account for any delays. DO BETTER.”It comes after thousands of evening commuters were stranded at train stations for hours on Wednesday night after a network-wide shutdown during peak hour. The shut down started after Transport was advised the Digital Train Radio System (DTRS), which connects the train crew with the signaller and the rail operations centre, had failed at 2.45pm on Wednesday. The outage lasted just over an hour but Sydney Trains staff were left scrambling into the early hours of the morning to get scheduled trips back up and running.
