The strong offer proved enough to take the big four-bedroom house off the market for close to $1.2m last week. The home on a 630sq m block at 10 Mackie St, Hamlyn Heights, sold for an undisclosed price that was near the top of the asking range of $1.1m to $1.2m.Is the Great Australian Dream dead?RELATED: The surprising buyer group best places to survive interest rate crisis1980s Belmont home scores top-dollar sale price at auctionGeelong home prices to double by 2030 amid Commonwealth Games boostWhitford, Newtown agent John Moran said despite strong interest during the campaign, the offer appeared too good for the vendors to refuse. He said a local family had bought the house.“They were just looking for something a bit bigger and the pool was an attraction,” Mr Moran said.“We had three parts what were interested on it.“We had really good numbers through the open for inspections, but one group just made an offer that was too good to refuse.”The house, which record show was previously bought for $377,00 in 2008, was renovated and extended in 2014.The floorplan in this four-bedroom residence is geared toward one thing – relaxed family living. That could take shape in many forms, such as sitting on the deck, in the pool, or the spacious living room. Spotted gum floors, raised square set ceilings, keyless entry, cat 6 network cabling, a security system and a kitchen with a stone waterfall benchtop, Franke sink and integrated dishwasher were features. Mr Moran said an increasing prevalence of pre-auction sales was a sign of the changing market.“In the middle of the market last year when it was read hot, there was obviously large numbers of people that were registered to bid, so people would go to auction the whole time. But that market was unsustainable.“So it’s come back to a normal market now and if buyers are asking at open for inspections, would the vendors consider an offer before auction, agents are now saying they would if it was a good offer.“So, I think that’s another sign of coming back to a normalising market.”It was the third before-auction sale reported in the region this week, with a three-bedorom house at 194 Minerva Rd, Newtown, also sold. Also, a three-bedroom house at 293 Scenic Rd, Highton, was taken off the market almost a week prior to going to auction, with the vendors having accepted an offer.
