‘Vulgar’ dress had Em Rata’s agent fuming

In a new Harper’s Bazaar video, the model and My Body author looked back at what she called “probably the most controversial dress [she’s] ever worn” — a deeply plunging cutout number by Julien Macdonald, which she chose for the 2016 Harper’s Bazaar Icons Party.“I had no idea what a scene this would cause,” Ratajkowski, 31, recalled of the revealing gown.“Somebody called it ‘extremely vulgar’ and it became this huge controversy on the internet. And some of my agents were mad at me because they thought it was too sexy.”At the time, the Blurred Lines beauty didn’t understand what all the fuss was about.“I was in my 20s and just, like, hadn’t registered that it was so sexy, because there is a panel in the middle, but it looks like there isn’t,” Ratajkowski continued.“And then I basically called the person who said it was a vulgar dress ‘sexist,’ and there was drama.”Despite the blowback, Ratajkowski still stands by the sexy style choice.“I still like that dress. I still think I look great,” she said.“I was basically called out for wanting attention, which I think is interesting, because you go to red carpets for attention, basically. Essentially, it’s part of your job as a celebrity.”Elsewhere in the clip, Ratajkowski looked back at the Cher-inspired cutout dress she wore to the 2019 Met Gala, the sheer black lace jumpsuit she chose for the 2017 Cannes Film Festival (for which she was fitted on a boat while seasick) and the vintage John Galliano newspaper-print dress first made famous by Carrie Bradshaw. The Gone Girl actress even discussed the see-through Coperni dress she wore to walk her dog this summer, which she picked because “it was very hot.”“Ladies, wear whatever the hell you want,” she quipped. This story originally appeared on Page Six and is republished here with permission.
