NSW Treasurer ‘not convinced yet’ price cap on gas will be the ‘best solution’

NSW Treasurer Matt Kean says he’s not convinced yet that a price cap on gas is going to be the best solution to the rising cost of energy. Mr Kean’s remarks come after a poll revealed a large portion of Australians – 80 per cent – are in favour of a price cap on gas amid energy bills rising and are set to increase further next year. “The head of the Australian Energy Regulator, Clare Savage, told the energy ministers on Friday that the window for price caps is very narrow,” Mr Kean told Sky News Australia. “In fact, we have to move before the end of the month if we want to see it have any difference - if at all it will make any difference.” Mr Kean said the government supports measures which will put downward pressure on Australians’ electricity prices.
