Start your free trial now >The Dolphins reportedly want to use a salary cap strategy to ensure the $5 million mega deal does not create salary cap problems for the club.Munster is signed to the Storm until the end of 2023, with the club refusing to let him leave early, so any Dolphins deal would have to start in 2024.The Storm have complained to the NRL that the Dolphins have broken rules by talking to Munster before November 1, but Bennett insists they haven’t done anything wrong in their attempts to land Munster.Munster’s manager Braith Anasta confirmed the Dolphins are interested in his star client, but insists no formal talks have taken place ahead of the November 1 deadline.When November 1 comes, the Dolphins will officially table their $1.3 million a season offer over four years from 2024 to 2027.The Dolphins and Bennett are desperate to land Munster for their second season after so far missing out on a marquee signing to build the club around.The huge Munster deal would eclipse Queensland Origin skipper Daly Cherry-Evans’ record $1.25 million a season deal at Manly as the biggest in the 24 year history of the NRL.NRL rules stipulate clubs must spend at least 95 per cent of their salary cap annually.The NRL’s salary cap for 2022 season is $9.4 million, but that is expected to increase in the next Collective Bargaining Agreement, which is currently being negotiated.The Dolphins plan to underspend on their inaugural 2023 salary cap, which would give them an extra $470,000 in their 2024 salary cap to make the lucrative Munster contract work within the rules.
