Labor extends terms of military leaders after ‘capability’ concerns

Opposition Leader Peter Dutton has raised concerns Labor is “crab walking” away from AUKUS after Defence Minister Richard Marles extended the terms of three senior military leaders. Mr Marles announced on Tuesday that Defence Force chief General Angus Campbell, Vice Admiral David Johnston and chief of joint operations Lieutenant General Greg Bilton will all remain in their posts. He said the decision to extend their terms was to ensure continuity adding the Coalition’s decision to sign the AUKUS agreement with the UK and the US had left Australia with the “potential of a very significant capability gap”.
