Australia facing uncertainty in ‘our region’

Defence Minister Peter Dutton says the Coalition will work “very hard” with the Solomon Islands to ensure China doesn’t establish a militarised port in the region. Australia has been warned to expect Chinese military to arrive on the Solomon Islands within the next four weeks, following the signing of the security pact between the two nations. Mr Dutton has insisted the Solomon Islands has given a commitment a military base “won’t happen”. “The problem here isn’t Australia, it’s China … China is on a very different path," he told Sky News Australia. “I’m not gonna sugarcoat what the future years and couple of decades look like in our region. “We have to be very serious about where China is headed … The relationship with Russia is disturbing to say the least.” Via news.com.au — Australia’s leading news site https://www.news.com.au
