Police were called to the Jacaranda Ave property at Kingston after neighbours reported hearing multiple explosions and seeing smoke around 5.30pm on Thursday. They say the improvised explosive device detonated when a man, 52, moved a bucket from his yard. The man was rushed to hospital by paramedics with serious leg and concussion injuries. The bucket bomb initially triggered an emergency declaration made under the Public Safety Preservation Act. Large parts of the area were evacuated, including more than 15 houses. The bomb squad accessed the area and the declaration has since been revoked. A nearby resident told The Courier Mail that she heard two explosions around two minutes apart.“There was smoke in the air, I thought it was a house exploding,” she said. “There was a bad smell afterwards.”Charmaine Williams, who lives in the area, told reporters that it sounded like a bomb had gone off.“The first explosion had smoke with a smell of acid and then 20 seconds later it went off again”, she said.Investigations are ongoing, with specialist police establishing a crime scene.
