Queensland Chief Health Officer Dr John Gerrard has warned in a few weeks the state may see tens of thousands of active COVID cases after 2,222 new infections were recorded. Dr Gerrard said there are now 8,586 active cases in the state. "We're not going to be talking about 8,000 cases in a few weeks – we're going to be talking about tens of thousands of cases," he said during a media conference on Thursday. Dr Gerrard said when the state reaches that point, everyone will know somebody who has the virus. "The good thing is the vaccines are working, and they have been clearly demonstrated to work," he said. Via news.com.au — Australia’s leading news site https://www.news.com.au
