Health Minister Greg Hunt has announced Braftovi – a medicine for bowel cancer – will be added to the Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme from January 1. "I am delighted that from the first of January we will be listing a new medicine for bowel cancer, Braftovi, on the PBS," Mr Hunt said during a media conference on Thursday. He said the medicine can be available for as little as $6.80 per script. "This is a medicine which would otherwise cost over $33,000 a year and will help 340 patients a year have access to a potentially life-changing, life-extending, life-saving medicine that would otherwise would have been not available and out of their reach," he said.
