Anderson crunches Magic Millions numbers for his filly

Currently sitting on the cusp of the 2YO Classic field, Minks Star needs a prizemoney boost to get into the $2m race at the Gold Coast and Anderson is hoping Saturday’s $105,000 2YO Handicap (1200m) can provide it. While he is realistic about his chances, Anderson said a minor placing could be just enough to secure a berth. With huge money on offer for the Magic Millions Women In Racing bonus, Anderson just wants to get into the field on January 15.“To be honest I can’t see Annabel’s horse (Soaring Ambition) getting beat on Saturday but our horse is all-female owned too so it is a bit of a race within a race if she happens to get there,” he said.“We have realistic expectations but to get an all-female owned one into the big race, there is so much prizemoney on offer.“I just want to get her into the Magic Millions in a fortnight, she just needs a little bit more.”Running second behind Queensland’s top two-year-old to date, Exo Lady, in the Listed Calaway Gal (1000m), Minks Star is rated the best local hope as a $10 chance with TAB. “She is such a tough filly, she hasn’t missed a beat at this time of the year,” Anderson said.“She sat three-deep the entire on that day and still had the audacity to stick on there against Exo Lady.“I think the 1200m will suit her too, we just want to draw a gate so that is the question mark, it’s where we land in the race.“With the Snowden’s taking theirs out then (Tony) Gollan taking out Honey Pot too, it looks an OK sort of a race.”After paying $200,000 for her at the Magic Millions sale, and $47,000 already in the bank for connections, Minks Star is already well on the way to covering her costs with a Stakes placing increasing her breeding value following her racing career.
