Women marched in Leeds on the evening of November 27 as part of Reclaim the Night protests in the United Kingdom against sexual and gender-based violence. The march took place during an annual international campaign called 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence which ran between November 25 and December 10, according to the United Nations. The first Reclaim the Night protest happened in 1977 in Leeds in response to police requests for women to stay home after dark amid a series of murders at the time by Peter Sutcliffe, according to the organizer’s website.
