‘My presidency will be determined by this’: Biden begs Democrats to pass infrastructure bill

US President Joe Biden has travelled to Capitol Hill to plead with his Democratic colleagues to pass his expansive legislative agenda. House Democratic leaders abandoned a third attempt on Thursday to pass a bipartisan infrastructure bill. The $1.2 trillion infrastructure bill was passed by the Senate but is being held up by progressives. Progressives want the Senate to pass a $1.85 trillion social safety net bill before even considering the infrastructure bill. In a widely leaked conversation, President Biden told House Democrats the next week will be critical for his presidency “We have a framework that will get 50 votes in the United States Senate,” President Biden reportedly said. “I don’t think it’s hyperbole to say that the House and Senate majorities and my presidency will be determined by what happens in the next week.” Via news.com.au — Australia’s leading news site https://www.news.com.au
