Victoria has recorded its first COVID-19 deaths in 2021, with a woman in her 40s and a woman in her 60s died of the disease last night. Despite the deaths, Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews is expected to announce revised restrictions for the state later today after admitting zero COVID-19 cases is no longer a target. Emergency meetings were held last night with the premier and Chief Health Officer Professor Brett Sutton discussing what measures could be eased and how many cases it would be safe to reopen with. The restrictions set to be reviewed are the ban on playgrounds, the five-kilometre travel limit, and the curfew – but schools will remain closed. There has also been a spike in cases as they have hit triple digits for the first time since Melbourne’s deadly second wave in September last year.
