Mike Pompeo reacts to Joe Biden’s handling of Afghanistan

Former secretary of state Mike Pompeo says he would have made sure to get "every American out" of Afghanistan and Donald Trump would have never left "$80 billion of equipment" behind. The US completed the final withdrawal of its forces and evacuees from Afghanistan today as the head of US Central Command confirmed the final plane with the last remaining US troops left Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul. General Frank McKenzie said "there's a lot of heartbreak associated with this departure". "We did not get everybody out that we wanted to get out," he said. "But I think if we'd stayed another 10 days, we wouldn't have gotten everybody out." Mr Pompeo told Fox News the Trump administration was always "determined" to get every American out and to make sure equipment wasn't left behind. "President Trump wanted to make sure we didn't leave $80 billion of equipment left behind as well," he said. "We were determined to get all the Americans out, to make sure we got equipment to make sure we were never threatened by our own equipment. "Again it's a sad day. We are now probably 24 hours from having everyone out of there and we will have a lot of Americans still stuck in Afghanistan."
