ASIO directive on religious extremism is a ‘sop to activist class’

Sky News host Rita Panahi says “anyone with a brain” can differentiate between Islamic extremists and non-violent practicing Muslims, after ASIO announced it’s ditching the term ‘Islamic extremism’ instead opting for ‘religious extremism’. “It seems to be again the suggestion that it was offensive to some in the Muslim community,” Ms Panahi said. “Anybody with a brain can differentiate between Islamist extreme Islam, and someone who is just a Muslim who follows their Islamic religion. “That extremism and those who are peaceful followers is a distinction everybody makes”. Sky News host James Morrow said the move announced by ASIO Director-General Mike Burgess is a “sop to an activist class” which seeks to “muddy the waters and brush aside a threat” for reasons of political correctness.
