Protesters held signs showing the number of people who had died from COVID-19 in the United States as the Republican National Convention (RNC) concluded with a firework display in Washington DC on August 27. The RNC was holding its final night at the White House, at which President Donald Trump delivered his acceptance speech of the Republican nomination to run for president at the 2020 election in November. Protesters gathered outside the White House, and played loud music to try and disrupt the speech. When the fireworks began, they held up illuminated signs reading “Trump failed 180,000+ died”. The Centre for Disease Control reported 178,998 people had died from COVID-19 in the United States over the course of the pandemic.
