Woolworths has announced up to 1,350 jobs will be lost to a new automated distribution centre, being built in Sydney’s south. Woolworths said the redundancies would cost about $176 million in payouts. CEO Brad Banducci said he is hopeful some of the employees can be redeployed throughout the Woolworths Group. The supermarket giant said it would provide a range of support and career transition services to staff before the closure of the three existing sites. The new centre will replace three others around the country and is expected to cost nearly $800 million.
