Rising Balonne River holds hope for drought-stricken Qld region

The Balonne River has risen to 12 metres following heavy rainfall in QLD, breaching the embankment and cutting the Andrew Nixon Bridge. The swollen river was a welcome sight to district residents following a long period of drought for cotton growers and barley and wheat producers. The E.J. Beardmore Dam is currently 90 per cent full and holds 12 months’ worth of water. The Balonne River is predicted to be at its highest on Thursday afternoon.
