Indian-Pacific celebrates 50 years of coast to coast train travel

February 23, 2020. The 50th anniversary of Australia's longest rail journey, the Indian Pacific coast-to-coast crossing, is being marked with special surprises along the way for about 230 travellers. Luke Walker, chief operating officer of Indian Pacific operator Journey Beyond, told reporters at East Perth train station on Sunday February 23, 2020 that the company planned to expand the train from 29 carriages to 35. Transport Minister Rita Saffioti said the state government was looking into extending the service from East Perth train station to Fremantle to make the journey a truly ocean-to-ocean experience and boost the port city’s tourism.
