Energy agency backs US-Aus oil deal

The federal government is negotiating with the US to buy millions of barrels of oil from the country’s fuel reserve. Australia has approximately 54 days of fuel reserves but under international agreements it is required to hold at least 90 days’ worth. The US deal would allow the government to store its own fuel in US facilities, preventing the need to spend billions on building storage facilities.
