The CFMEU has warned if the Greater Sydney construction ban continues beyond Friday-week the industry will be in dire-straights. CFMEU State Secretary Darren Greenfield told 2GB Radio, “businesses will start to collapse". “Subcontractors cannot sustain a third or fourth week of this, our industry will be a basket case.” It is understood the decision to ban construction for the next couple of weeks did not come from NSW Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant and was a decision made in crisis cabinet. The decision was reportedly opposed by almost half the cabinet including Treasurer Dominic Perrottet and even Health Minister Brad Hazard. However, Premier Gladys Berejiklian, Deputy Premier John Barilaro and NSW Customer Service Minister Victor Dominello, were all in favour of the ban.
